Pumpkin Festival 2015
We celebrated the harvest of fruits and vegetables from our Rainbow Garden, providing over 4000 pounds of produce to local food banks through GleanSLO. Our program participants harvested the pumpkins grown from seedlings raised in their classrooms. The harvest day was packed with fun activities and a barbecue with grassfed hamburgers donated by Hearst Ranch. The participants enjoyed previews of our upcoming vocational programs in our Exploratorium. Themes included Equine Therapy, Protecting Resources, Fossils and Tracks, Rhythm and Harmony, Gardening, and Healthy Eating. We especially appreciate our volunteers from Kiwanis International-Atascadero, Aktion Club, Cal Poly Student Community Services, Cuesta College, as well as the many individuals who donated their time. We also thank our donors: Trabia Farms, Hearst Ranch, Innovated Packaging Company, Integrated Packing and Crating Services and many individuals.

A fun Earth Day celebration at Trabia Farms
A fun Earth Day celebration at Trabia Farms
In February 2015, we provided organic
non-GMO pumpkin seeds and potting supplies to numerous classrooms and facilities so that our special kids and adults could learn how to grow their own pumpkins. At our celebration at Trabia Farms, participants, their families and teachers came to plant their seedlings in the Rainbow Garden.
We also celebrated Earth Day and everyone got a sneak preview of the Exploratorium improvements that Atypical Place had been working on.
First Annual Pumpkin Fest, October 18, 2014
Our guests at Trabia Farms were all the special kids and adults with their families and teachers whom we had met on our visits to Paso Robles, Templeton and Atascadero school districts and local agencies. Thanks to all the wonderful volunteers who helped make our party a success.
There were lawn games, a bounce house, a clown (who made terrific balloon sculptures and fun face paintings), a raffle, a BBQ, and so much more. Everyone got to pick out a pumpkin to take home.
We also celebrated donating to local food banks over 4000 pounds of fresh produce, picked by GleanSLO from our Rainbow Garden.
